Create Your Own Unique Coffee Blend
The reasons for blending
These can be very different from roaster to roaster.
The commercial aim may be to produce a coffee which is consistent and also better than the sum of available parts.
This of course will have many problems for large roasters with budgets to meet when certain coffees are not available.
High quality restaurants and coffee houses may also like to create a unique blend which cannot be repeated elsewhere. Pumphreys encourage this and are pleased to actively help. Please contact us on sales@pumphreys-coffee.co.uk to find out how we can help you. We have already produced over twenty bespoke blends for our most discerning customers. Although this can all be done very easily at out training rooms at Blaydon, we also work with many customers throughout the country.
Many home coffee drinkers, of course, like to try look for the perfectly proportioned single origin bean. This could take a long time, and because our tastes are all different, may never happen.
The joy of blending
Because Pumphreys carry a full range of the best available coffees in the world, the joy of blending is available to our domestic customers as well.
Many of our customers both at Grainger Arcade Newcastle and our Factory shop and showroom at Blaydon experiment with blends on a regular basis.
Some very general rules are:-
- Kenyan Arabicas will have a high acidity and produce a ‘bite’ to the cup.
- Brazilian Arabicas will add nutty flavours.
- Central American Arabicas will add traditional flavours and smoothness.
- Indonesian Arabicas will add body and feel to the cup.
- Robusta’s will add a caffeine hit
- Espresso blends normally attain a better ‘crema’ with a dry processed coffee base. Add different coffees to attain different flavours.
