Making Tea

Pumphrey's of Newcastle are dedicated to offering you the widest possible selection of top-grade high grown teas. We are constantly adding teas to our range as they become available.

Anyone can make tea, but here's Pumphrey's suggestions to help maximise your enjoyment of tea drinking:

  • Always purchase the best quality tea you can afford;
  • Always store your tea in an airtight container away from moisture and any strong or pungent odours;
  • Although tastes differ, a good guide is the old maxim of "one spoonful per person and one for the pot";
  • Use freshly drawn cold water and bring it to the boil;
  • Take the warmed teapot to the kettle and pour on the boiling water;
  • Stir and allow the tea to infuse for around 5 minutes;
  • Strain into your cup.

Don't automatically add milk to the brew, try it black you may like it, and it will certainly exaggerate the differences between the teas.
